The issues of introducing key populations to the services of voluntary HIV testing (VCT) and opioid substitution therapy (OST) were discussed in the city of Bokhtar, Khatlon region.
On November 22, 2018, a regular working meeting of the partner network of providers of medical and social services of the Khatlon region took place in Bokhtar city. 35 representatives of the Khatlon Oblast Health Department, HIV and Narcology Centers, public and international organizations working in the provision of services for key populations participated in regular working meeting.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the problems and develop joint actions to expand access of key populations with a special focus on drug users to VCT and OST services.
During the working meeting, the participants learned about the situation of HIV testing among drug users and their treatment with opioid substitution therapy. Participants were also provided with information on the progress of project “Strengthening the supportive environment and expanding the scope of prevention, treatment and care to curb the HIV epidemic in the Republic of Tajikistan”, implemented by Republican public organization “AFEW-Tajikistan” in 9 districts of Khatlon region, The goal and objectives of the project are also aimed at expanding the access of drug users to VCT and OST services.
The working meeting was organized with the assistance of Khatlon Oblast Health Department and the project “Strengthening the supportive environment and scaling up prevention, treatment and care to curb the HIV epidemic in the Republic of Tajikistan”, funded by UNDP-Tajikistan with support of Global Fund.
